Voluptuous in Velvet!

History of velvet! Velvet is a silken textile fabric having a short dense piled surface. In all probability the art of velvet-weaving originated in the Far East; and it is not till about the beginning of the 14th century that we find any mention of the textile. Velvet can be made from either synthetic or natural fibres. How to wear Velvet; velvet is a firm winter favourite, and an ideal choice in the run up to the christmas party season. A simple velvet dress can provide the basis for a striking evening look. Pair with natural dewy skin and minimal makeup, with the exception of a coloured lip. Try a velvet bra underneath a sheer blouse or shirt unbuttoned a third of the way. Wear with delicate gold chains and your hair up for an outfit that looks cute and effortless, like you just threw it together.

Carry your essentials in a sparkly clutch. The combination of textures will stop the velvet looking too heavy. If you love velvet but are not the one for dressing up then go casual, and opt for a slouchy velvet T-shirt. Jazz up an otherwise simple outfit with a colourful velvet bag, or slip on some velvet flats to take you comfortably (and stylishly) from desk to dinner. A velvet blazer is a chic, office-appropriate cover-up, and feels far more luxurious than your average navy or black one.
